👤 Life Member: Kevin McComb Kevin McComb founded the Whakatāne Cycling Club in 1987 and served as President for an exceptional 32 years, retiring in 2019. Throughout his tenure, Kevin played a pivotal role in every facet of club life — from organising cycling safety events and community fundraisers to mentoring riders across all levels. He also contributed a long-running weekly cycling column to the Whakatane Beacon, sharing insights and stories from the sport. In recognition of his outstanding service, Kevin was made a Life Member of the club in 2021 and was awarded the Queen’s Service Medal in the 2023 New Year Honours for his contributions to cycling. |

- Eric McKenzie
Widely regarded as the club’s most accomplished rider, Eric won the 1979 Tour of Southland and competed in four editions of the Tour de France (1982–1985). His top finishes include 5th place in two stages (1982) and 3rd and 4th placings in 1983.
